OPAL CARE
Our crystal opals are all natural and require special care. We recommend being very gentle with your crystal opal piece with special attention to our care instructions, including storage.
Opals are soft stones with a hardness of 5.5-6.5 on The Mohs Scale (diamonds have a hardness of 10 on The Mohs Scale).
CARING FOR YOUR OPAL JEWELLERY
Contact with water, humidity or any other liquid will cause crystal opals to lose their colour.
Keep your opal away from water, salt water, chlorine, perfumes, make-up, fake tan, hairspray, cleaning products, lotions, oils and any oxidising agents (like hair dye; peroxide).
Dropping, tapping or knocking your jewellery on hard surfaces can damage your opal resulting in chips or cracks.
ALWAYS take off your opal piece before swimming, showering or having a bubble bath.
DON'T wear your jewellery at the gym, yoga, while running, at your boxing class or any other activity. Sweat is a complex, natural thing (that contains sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, fatty acids and much more) and it can speed up oxidisation.
ALWAYS take off your jewellery before you go to sleep.
Be careful dressing and undressing, take your jewellery off first and put it on last.
To clean your opal jewellery, gently polish with a soft cloth. Do not use any cleaning products. A super soft cloth and gentle touch is all you need.
STORING YOUR OPAL JEWELLERY
Rapid changes in temperature can cause opals to crack.
Keep your opal piece stored in a cool, dry place, on its own in a protective box.
